Chances are it has not been very long since you have had your puppy; in fact you probably found the puppy biting sweet and cute. After all when a puppy is new they will teasingly bite your toes and maybe even nible your ears; which can tickle.

Puppies who are around 16 weeks old will begin to start nipping or even biting; and believe me it is not going to feel good. If a puppy is constantly biting; then they could be hungry or even thirsty, or they may need to go outside to use the potty. As you know puppies are full of energy and puppy biting could be her way of letting you know that it is time to play.

How To Stop Puppy Biting
1. Corrective Action: It is vital that you do not take it playfully; let them know that you do not approve of this type of behavior. After a couple of scoldings; they will eventually understand that you do not want to be bit.
2. Crate Training A Puppy: Put her in her crate and put chewable toys that she can play with. This will help sooth their teething problem and give they will begin using their toy instead of your personal items.
3. Say NO: If your pup keeps biting you then begin using the command “NO.” As you keep doing this they will pick up on your commands. Be sure to stay consistent with the same word whenever you want them to stop biting. If you are crate training puppies you never want to put your pup in the crate if they are biting; this will only make them associate the crate with bad behavior.
4. Don’t Instigate It: This means avoid playing tug-of-war or any other type of teasing games that can send them the wrong signals.
5. Stop The Bite: If your pup is stubborn and continues biting on your fingers; put your thumb inside of her mouth underneath her tongue. This will help you grasp her lower jaw bone to stop the bite. Be sure to be gentle while doing this as not to hurt her. You will find that she will eventually stop; because she does not want your thumb in her mouth.
